Jim has been with Thorson • Baker + Associates since its inception in 1993. With over 30 years of experience in structural design, he is responsible for the management of the structural CAD/Revit department, CAD standards and making certain project schedules are achieved. Jim also serves in the capacity of IT systems administrator overseeing the firm network infrastructure providing system support, system documentation, updates, security, back-up methodology and software management and updates.
Joining Thorson • Baker + Associates in 1998, Karen has advanced to senior management through her hard work, leadership skills and dedication. She works closely with the Principals to insure the stability and growth of the firm. She manages the financial practices and accounting operations of the firm overseeing collections, contracts, insurances, human resources, compliance, and engineering registrations.
Dave joined Thorson • Baker + Associates in 1994. His dedication, positive attitude and willingness to help others has earned him an associate position at TBA. Dave is responsible for implementation of network systems upgrades, applications, user interface and trouble shooting. He provides assistance in recommending new electronic equipment and equipment upgrades. Dave also maintains network equipment, servers, work stations, plotters, printers, phone system and personal electronic devices.
Joining Thorson • Baker + Associates in 1995, Maria has advanced to Associate in the firm as a result of her project management and leadership skills. Her experience includes institutional, commercial, retail, municipal, and industrial projects. Maria’s project involvement includes management of staff and project schedules, structural design, preparation of construction drawings and specifications, construction administration, and computer applications.
Since joining Thorson • Baker + Associates in 2001, Laurie serves as an Electrical Department Team Leader. She is responsible for the production of electrical construction documents from project inception through and including construction administration. Laurie’s experience in the electrical design of commercial buildings includes conceptual design, preparation of construction documents and energy code compliance documentation, and assistance in project closeout. She also specializes in lighting design, providing support for electrical project managers and designers on projects where specialty lighting design is a requirement.
Rich joined Thorson • Baker + Associates in 1997 as one of the first members of the Electrical Department. He serves as an Electrical Team Leader. Rich's primary responsibilities include managing national retail programs for the firm, developing and maintaining client relations, as well as, working closely with staff overseeing production of electrical construction documents, energy code documentation and construction administration.
Bryan Melvin joined Thorson • Baker + Associates as an Electrical Design Engineer in January 2006 and quickly advanced to the level of Senior Project Manager, and to Associate with the firm. Bryan is responsible for client relations, project administration and the management and preparation of construction documents. With more than 15 years of combined experience in engineering and construction, he takes an active role in projects from inception through design, construction documents, and construction.
Since joining Thorson • Baker + Associates (TBA) in February 2005, Dave has served as design engineer and project engineer on a variety of projects. The extent of his involvement has included structural design, preparation of construction drawings and specifications, and construction administration.
Rob joined Thorson • Baker + Associates (TBA) in 2006 with seven years of experience in engineering and hands-on construction. His wide range of knowledge and experience in numerous construction types and methods has allowed him to manage as well as take on an active roll in the design of projects of varying complexity. Rob has been involved in projects in a variety of fields, including K-12 and higher education, healthcare, commercial, industrial, and renovation. Rob became an Associate in March of 2018.
Nate joined Thorson • Baker + Associates, Inc. (TBA), in October 2005 as Structural Design Engineer and quickly advanced to the level of Senior Project Manager. His experience includes project schedules, structural design, preparation of construction drawings and specifications, construction administration, and computer applications. Nate’s project experience includes corporate, medical, commercial, educational, and public projects with a concentration on large retail projects. In March of 2018, Nate was promoted to Associate.
